Willard Ira Swigert (Bolivar)'s Obituary
Willard Ira Swigert passed away on Thursday, July 6th, 2023, at Citizens Memorial Hospital. Willard was born on August 2nd,1933, to Lonnie & Mary Swigert in Burns, Missouri just east of Bolivar. He attended school in one room schoolhouses in Wilmington, Union Ridge and McKinney schools in Polk County.
Willard was a veteran of the U.S. Army and retired from the Zenith Corporation where he was a fork truck operator.
He and his first wife, Floris, had six children.
After her passing in the early 1990’s, Willard’s Aunt Irene was worried about him because he would never get out of the house, so Irene invited him to the Bolivar Senior Center. Willard agreed to go and that was when he met Dolores.
The couple spent many days together playing cards and trying to improve the game, Pitch. But little did Willard know, he was about to learn how to dance! Dolores and a good friend taught him how to square dance, polka, waltz and two-step and they never missed a Saturday night dance. But since Willard had once lived in Las Vegas and Dolores had never been, they decided to go and visit the Casinos. While they were there, they also visited a wedding chapel and got married!
Willard and Dolores lived happily ever-after for almost 25 years, spending the last five years together at CMHCF. Many of their days were spent playing bingo and visiting with staff and other residents.
Willard was a loving and dedicated husband to Dolores and after her passing, he was just waiting for his time to go, and it wasn’t long.
The family would like to thank CMHCF for their wonderful care, support and love over the past five years.
