William "Bill" Burton(Lebanon)'s Obituary
William Bane Burton, son of Preston B. and Georgie Hoback Burton, was born April 9, 1946, in Pearisburg, Virginia. He departed this life Monday, November 26, 2018, in Lebanon South Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of seventy-two years, seven months, and seventeen days.
On February 4, 1969, he was united in marriage to Elfriede Lobsin, and to this union one daughter and one son were born.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Elfriede, on April 27, 1987; a brother, Ernie Burton; and a sister, Judy Scherrer.
William is survived by a daughter, Linda Hammonds, and her husband, Steven, of Lebanon, Missouri; a son, Thomas Burton, and his wife, Dorace, of Lebanon, Missouri; three grandchildren, Donnie Corbello, Nick Burton, and Jessica Corbello; a great-grandchild, Ashlyn; two sisters, Frances Croy, and her husband, Dick, of the State of Florida, and Sandy Karickhoff, and her husband, Steve, of the State of Iowa; a brother, John Burton, and his wife, Ramona, of Houston, Texas; nephews, Joseph, Adam, and Jarrod; nieces, Kimberly, and Ashley, as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
He was born and raised in Pearisburg, Virginia where he graduated from high school. He then joined the military as a young man, and served his country faithfully in the United States Army for twenty one years. He performed a tour of duty in the Vietnam War. He was stationed in Germany where he met his wife. The family moved to Fort Leonard Wood in 1976 where he would retire in 1988. He lived in the Laquey and Dixon area, and settled in Eldridge to raise Irish Dexter cattle on his farm, Shade Tree Farm. He also worked at Missouri Cooperage (Independent Stave) for twenty three years.
William was raised in the United Methodist Church and followed that faith throughout his life.
He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He took great pride in raising Irish Dexter cattle on his Shade Tree Farm. He was very active in the 4-H program for several years. He also enjoyed watching NASCAR races. His family was very important to him and he enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild.
William was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and know that he will be fondly remembered as a devoted family man, a dedicated soldier, and a good friend.
