William "Bill" L. Coates, Jr. (Lebanon)'s Obituary
William Leonard Coates, Jr., son of William Leonard Coates, Sr. and Carol Coates Barnett, was born November 3, 1970, in El Centro, California. He departed this life Saturday, October 31, 2020, in Mercy Hospital, in Springfield, Missouri, at the age of forty-nine years, eleven months, and twenty-eight days.
He was preceded in death by his father; a brother, Travis Coates; his grandparents, Mytrle and Ann Milam, James and Arizona Coates, Gertrude Wood, and Dewey and Alene Barnett.
Bill is survived by a daughter, Paige Coates, of Nixa, Missouri; a grandson, Wylin Wake, of Nixa, Missouri; his mother, Carol Barnett, and her husband, Ron, of West Plains, Missouri; two sisters, Alison Shannon, and her husband, David, and Sherry Campbell, all of West Plains, Missouri; three nieces, Jennifer Shannon and Orianna Collins and Taylor Campbell; five nephews, Johnathan Willis, Joshua Willis, and his wife, Tiana, Scott Runion, James, and Dalton Campbell; a great-niece, Renley Willis; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
He was raised on a farm in the West Plains, Missouri area where he chased pigs, went squirrel hunting, and pestered his sister by throwing rocks at her. After graduating from high school, he joined the United States Navy and served his country faithfully for four years. He then took a break and was called back to serve in the United States Coast Guard, which he did for eighteen years, retiring as a Chief Petty Officer.
Bill made his profession of faith in Christ and was baptized on February 9, 1992.
He was a member of the Lebanon V.F.W. Post # 4107. He later became a Licensed Practical Nurse and worked as a nurse for a few years. In his spare time he enjoyed working on cars with his dad, and liked collecting guns. He loved his family very much and especially enjoyed his grandson, nieces and nephews.
Bill was a loving father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, great-uncle, and was a caring friend. We celebrate his life and know that his family and friends will hold tight to the wonderful memories he made for them during his lifetime.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, Nov. 4 at 2 p.m. at Holman-Howe Funeral Home. Burial with full military honors will be in Mount Rose Memorial Park.
