William "Bill" King (Mansfield)'s Obituary
William “Bill” King, son of Alvin James and Ella Rogers King, was born October 9, 1920 near Norwood, Missouri and departed this life on December 7, 2014 in Rocky Ridge Manor near Mansfield, Missouri at the age of ninety-four years, one month and twenty-eight days.
On November 15, 1948, Bill was united in marriage to Opal Williams and they spent thirty-seven wonderful years together before Opal passed away in January, 1985. In 1986, Bill married Lucille Johnstone and they enjoyed seven years together until Lucille passed away in August, 1993. He was also preceded in death by his parents; nine brothers, Eldo, Cliff, John, Frank, Lester, Chester, Bert, Dick and Ben King; four sisters, Mary Edwards, Nettie Moody, Imogene Benett and Catherine King; and step-daughter, Klota Underwood.
Bill is survived by two special nieces and their husbands, Glennis and Butch Smith and Linda and Jake Hoover; step daughter, Betty Thompson and husband Mike; two step-sons, Joe Johnstone and wife, Kathy and Junior Johnstone and wife Joan; four sisters-in-law, Zena King, Doris Waylon, Elen Yurk and Ester Erwin; brother-in-law, Joe Bowen; along with many other relatives and friends.
He faithfully served his country during World War II from September 26, 1942 until December 31, 1945. He spent time in the Philippines, New Guinea and Australia. After his honorable discharge from the Army, he worked at many construction jobs along the West coast from the Bay area to Oregon building roads and bridges.
Bill enjoyed life to the fullest, especially time spent with family and friends. The highlight of his life in recent years was when he and Linda took the Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. He was also an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.
Bill had a generous heart and a great sense of humor. He was a loving husband, uncle and step-father who will be sorely missed by all that knew and loved him.
