William "Bill" Lane (Lebanon)'s Obituary
William (Bill) J. Lane was born in Kansas City, Missouri to George Lane and Kathryn Crumm Lane on July 22, 1930. He passed away Thursday, October 17, 2024 at Cedarhurst in Lebanon, Missouri. He was ninety-four years, two months and twenty-six days of age.
Bill grew up in Liberty, Missouri and entered the United States Army as a young man. He proudly and faithfully served his country for twenty-one years. While with the Army, Bill served in the Korean War and the Vietnam War, as well as other assignments. He was very well decorated for his military service, but his greatest accomplishment was being awarded the Bronze Star. He loved his country and was very honored to serve.
Following his retirement from the Army, Bill located to Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri where he was employed with the Civil Service.
On July 28, 1968, Bill was united in marriage to Felicita (Castro) Lane. She supported him throughout his military and Civil Service career and they created many wonderful memories together. She passed away April 13, 2018; just three months shy of their fiftieth wedding anniversary.
In addition to his loving wife, Felicita, he was preceded in death by his parents, George and Kathryn Lane; his son, Billy; his daughter, Linda; a brother, George; a sister, Mary Alice; and a granddaughter, Tonya Counts.
He is survived by his daughter Debbie Ras of Huntsville, Alabama; his son George Lane and his wife Kathy of Lebanon, Missouri; his grandchildren, Dalton, Elijah and his wife Lanie, Bianca, Kyle, Nicole, Tucker and Christina; his great-grandchild, Laramie; and his sister, Jacqueline Borton of Plattsburg, Missouri.
Bill and Felicita enjoyed traveling around the country, taking in the beautiful scenery and American history along the way. Bill also liked studying genealogy and had documented many branches of his family tree. He also liked being outdoors, trapping and hunting.
He was very patriotic and was a great story teller. He would tell many fascinating stories of his days in the military to all who would listen.
His life rotated around his family. His grandchildren were the light of his life and he enjoyed being with them as often as possible. Bill was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend. He was a man whose life was defined in service and leadership and a zest for adventure. Bill leaves many memories for his family and friends to cherish and share for years to come.
Service for Bill Lane will be Monday, October 21, 2024 at 2 p.m. at Holman-Howe Funeral Home. Visitation will be Sunday, Oct. 20 from 2 - 3:30 p.m. at Holman-Howe Funeral Home. Burial will be in Competition Cemetery. A memorial to Wounded Warriors had been established and donations may be left at the funeral home.
