William Boyd (Bolivar)'s Obituary
Mr. William “Bill” Reed Boyd, age 81, of Bolivar, Missouri passed away on Thursday evening, January 5, 2012 at Citizen’s Memorial Hospital in Bolivar, Missouri.
He was born December 24, 1930 in Junction City, Kansas the son of Clyde Reed Boyd and Nettie Ellen (Huston) Boyd.
On September 3, 1950 he married Donna Lee Greenberg in Belleview, Kansas. Together they raised four wonderful children; Karen, Janet, Mark and Eric.
Bill served his country in the United States Air Force (1950-1955). His love for aircraft led him to work as an airplane mechanic for American Airlines. It was there that a coworker shared Christ with him. Bill felt the call to ministry and enrolled at Oklahoma Baptist University. After graduation in 1960, Bill attended Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.
God gifted Bill with the ability to lead a mission church to grow and become an established church. His first pastorate was in Albia, Iowa where he pastored for 8 years. From there he went to Overland Park, Kansas (3 years), Chardon, Ohio (10 years), Sheffield Lake, Ohio (4 years), and Port St. Lucie, Florida (8 years). Bill’s love for mission work also extended across the seas to Russia and the Ukraine.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson; Forrest Boyd, one brother and one sister.
Bill is survived by his wife; Donna Lee Boyd of the home, two daughters; Karen Shaffer and her husband David of Bolivar, Missouri, Janet Arnold and her husband Joe of Bolivar, Missouri, two sons; Mark Boyd and his wife Heather of Newland, North Carolina, Eric Boyd and his wife Debbie of Stuart, Florida, one brother; Bob Boyd and his wife Joann of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, one sister; Ellen Mohr of Brownsville, Texas, 9 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00am, Monday, January 9, 2012 at the First Baptist Church in Bolivar, Missouri with Reverend Don Betts and Reverend Billy Russell officiating under the care and direction of the Butler Funeral Home of Bolivar. No visitation will be held. Burial will be at 1:00pm, Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery just South of Springfield, Missouri.
