William Metty (Lebanon)'s Obituary
William Leroy Metty, son of Bernard and Martha J. Herring Metty, was born October 12, 1949, in Houston, Texas. He departed this life Sunday, September 6, 2020, in his home, in Miller, Missouri, at the age of seventy years, ten months, and twenty-five days.
On August 9, 1978, he was united in marriage to Rhonda Faye Mabe, and to this union three daughters and three sons were born.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Rhonda, on May 23, 2008.
William is survived by three daughters, Sondra Thornhill, and her fiancé, Ronald Roy, of Miller, Missouri, Angela Cruise, and her husband, Chris, of East St. Louis, Illinois, and Brandi Metty, of Mountain Grove, Missouri; three sons, Jason Metty, David Metty, both of Mountain Grove, Missouri, and Lyndel Metty, of Miller, Missouri; seventeen grandchildren; a number of great-grandchildren; three sisters, Nelsene Tutt, of Crossett, Arkansas, Ina Jean Metty, of Kalispell, Montana, and Sue Simmons, and her husband, Dick, of Channelview, Texas; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
He was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and raised in the Houston, Texas area, and graduated from high school there. He entered the military as a young man, and served his country faithfully in the United States Army where he was stationed in Alaska. After being honorably discharged from the Army, he made his home in Oklahoma where he met and soon married Rhonda. They made their home in Oklahoma, Texas and Missouri throughout the years, and William worked as a tow boat operator on the Mississippi River for several years.
William was raised in the Lutheran faith.
He enjoyed being outdoors where his favorite activity was fishing. He had a good sense of humor and loved to laugh. He centered his life around his family and especially enjoyed having time with his grandchildren.
William was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and was a caring friend. We celebrate his life and know that his family and friends will hold tight to the wonderful memories he made for them during his lifetime.
Graveside services with full military rites will be Friday, Sept. 11 at 2 p.m. in New Home Cemetery near Jerktail in Wright County. A visitation will be held Thursday, Sept. 10 from 6 - 7:30 p.m. in Holman-Howe Funeral Home in Lebanon. A memorial has been established to the American Cancer Society.
