Willis Groom (Bolivar)'s Obituary
Willis Brown Groom (Bill) passed away on 9 May 2016. He was born 14 March 1932 on the family farm south of Stewartsville,Mo. Bill was the 5th child of Horace Edgar and Betty Ann Carson Groom. Bill was educated in the Clinton and DeKalb school system.
He enlisted in the US Army in 1949, he served in both the Korean and Vietnam wars. He was wounded in action on August 14 1950. He then served in the European Theater for 2 different tours. He was a proud member of the 11th and 82nd Airborne Divisions and loved the challenge of being a paratrooper. He served with the 101st Airborne Division in Vietnam.
He met and married Georgia Musick in 1962 at Ft. Bragg, NC. They had a daughter, April in 1963, who survived of the home. In addition to April he also had 3 step children, Richard, Gary, and Karen, all of whom survive, with the exception of Karen who passed in 2015. He is also survived by Angie, William, Garrett (grandchildren), and Savannah, Sydney, and Emma ( great-grandchildren). Bill was a member of the American Legion Post #508 of Stewartsville, Mo for 28 years.
Bill is being interred in the Veterans Cemetery in Springfield, Mo Monday, 16 May 2016 with military honors.
