Wilma Doris Jones, daughter of Porter and Grace Jackson Officer, was born September 1, 1920, near Morgan, Missouri. She departed this life Wednesday, January 7, 2009, in St. John’s Hospital, in Springfield, Missouri, at the age of eighty-eight years, four months, and six days. On May 5, 1947, she was united in marriage to Leyman Everett Jones, and to this union three sons were born. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leyman, on March 30, 2004; and two brothers, Virgil and Lester Officer. Wilma is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Everett and Martha Jones, Jerry and Susan Jones, and LeeRoy and Denise Jones, all of Grovespring, Missouri; six grandchildren, Teresa Williams, Brent Jones, Tara Hough, Tonya Jones, Belle Jones, and Lacy Jones; six great-grandchildren, Breanna and Megan Manley, Kyndra Robertson, Bryce Hough, Mason Jones, and Zachary Jones; a sister, Mary Jones, of Grovespring, Missouri; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. She was born and raised in the Morgan community and graduated from Morgan High School. After she and Leyman were married, they made their home on their farm, near Grovespring, and lovingly raised their sons. Throughout the years, Wilma was a devoted and hardworking homemaker to her husband and family. Wilma made her profession of faith in Christ and was baptized into the Morgan Missionary Baptist Church while she was in high school. In her spare time she enjoyed crocheting and quilting, and also liked gardening. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed preparing large meals for family gatherings. She also liked visiting with her neighbors and friends. Wilma was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and will cherish the wonderful memories she created for her family and friends.
