Wilma Matney's Obituary
Wilma Ann Matney, daughter of Samuel Oscar and Margaret Grace (Hubbell) Smith was born February 10, 1942, in Hoquiam, Washington. She departed this life Tuesday, November 17, 2009, in Glenwood Healthcare in Seymour, Missouri, at the age of sixty-seven years, nine months, and seven days. On November 23, 1972 she was united in marriage to Lester Richard Matney and together they spent thirty-seven wonderful years. Wilma was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Robert Dean Smith; and a sister, Shelby Cole. She is survived by her loving husband, Lester, of the home; three sons, Steve Fox, of Seymour, Missouri, Brent Fox and his wife, Crystal, of Willard, Missouri, and Gregg Fox and his wife, Lissa, of Seymour, Missouri; six grandchildren, Jessica Prewitt and her husband, Jeff, Samuel, Skylar, and Seth Fox, Amanda Bedwell, and Bryce Fox; four sisters-in-law, Oleta Codding, of Seymour, Missouri, Aniece Hemminger and her husband, Russell, of Lebanon, Missouri, Olevia Williams, of Brownwood, Texas, and Loni Higgins, of Rogersville, Missouri; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and many friends. She lived in Washington as a child and then her family moved to Seymour, Missouri, where she graduated from Seymour High School in the Class of 1960. She was a homemaker and worked for several years at Tobin-Hamilton Shoe Factory in Mansfield, Missouri. After she and Lester were married, they made their home on their acreage south of Seymour. Wilma had accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and was attending the Seymour Freewill Baptist Church until her health kept her from going. She was a very out-going person who loved to spend time with her family and friends. When she was unable to go out, she would talk with them on the telephone. She enjoyed cooking special meals for her family and in her spare time she grew beautiful flowers and liked to go fishing. Wilma was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister-in-law, and aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We admire her for her courageous battle against cancer and will cherish all the precious memories she has created for her family and friends. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday November 20, 2009 at the Holman- Howe Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Seymour Masonic Cemetery.
