Wyona G. Elam (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Wyona Gertrude Elam, daughter of Jerry and Mabel Musgrave Bennett, was born August 26, 1917, in Laclede County, Missouri. She departed this life Tuesday, April 19, 2016, in the University of Missouri Medical Center, in Columbia, Missouri, at the age of ninety-eight years, one month, and twenty-three days.
On August 26, 1934, she was united in marriage to Irvin Ernest Elam, and they shared fifty-six years before his passing on March 1, 1995.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a daughter, Norma Elam.
Wyona is survived by a daughter, Nora Lee Blackburn, of Lebanon, Missouri; a granddaughter, Becky Anderson, and Kevin Schneider, of Brighton, Missouri; a great-great-granddaughter, Brandy Ellis, and her husband, Josh, of Bella Vista, Arkansas; three great-great-grandchildren, Skyla, Neil, and Rylan; two sisters, Rosalee Copeland, and her husband, Fred, of Independence, Missouri, and Laverna Jones, of Lebanon, Missouri; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
She was raised in the Nebo community and attended the Nebo School. After she and Irvin were married, they made their home near Lebanon and lovingly raised their daughters. Wyona was a devoted homemaker to her husband and family, and also helped in the operation of their farm and Elam’s Market.
Wyona had professed her faith in Christ and was a member of Wood Street Pentecostal Church.
In her spare time she enjoyed growing a garden each year and canning her homegrown produce. She also was a wonderful cook and liked to do quilting. Her family was very important to her and she especially enjoyed all of her grandchildren.
Wyona was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and know that her family and friends will cherish the wonderful memories she created for them during her ninety-eight years.
