Charlcie Royster (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Charlcie Maxine Royster, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, passed away Tuesday, March 28, 2023, in Integris Hospice House, Oklahoma City. She was born February 17, 1934, in Texas County, Missouri, to Jesse Otto Mace and Fairie Mae Mason. At the time of her passing, she was eighty-nine years, one month and eleven days.
She grew up in Texas County, Missouri, and graduated in the class of 1952 at Plato High School. She was valedictorian of her class. She went on to college in Springfield, Missouri, where she earned her teaching degree. Her first teaching job was at Mooney Hollow School, a one room school near Licking, Missouri.
On January 29, 1956, she was united in marriage to Kenneth Royster. Shortly after they were married, Kenneth was drafted into the United States Army and they moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. While there, Charlcie was employed at the Navy Underwater Equipment Testing Facility.
After Kenneth completed his service with the Army, they moved to Monett, Missouri, and started their family. In 1960, they moved to Oklahoma City and lovingly raised their two sons, Jason and Brian. Charlcie then continued her teaching career and retired from teaching in Oklahoma.
After she retired, she kept busy by volunteering at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum as a docent providing group learning experiences in the form of museum tours, demonstrations or instruction in special activity areas. She was especially pleased when they assigned her to a group of children. She loved serving in this capacity and meeting people from all over the United States.
Charlcie was also a very talented and gifted artist. She painted many pictures for her home as well as for friends and family. Painting outdoor scenes was her favorite and the plains of Oklahoma gave her much material to work with.
Charlcie was a wonderful mother and wife. She taught her boys to be strong and successful members of society. Her son Jason said she always told him not to be a “Momma’s boy” so he wasn’t!
Above all, Charlcie was a wonderful Christian woman. She stood fast in her convictions. She loved her Father in Heaven and was ready to meet Him.
Charlcie is survived by her husband, Kenneth Royster of Yukon, Oklahoma; two sons, Jason Royster of Yukon, Oklahoma and Brian Royster of Edmond, Oklahoma; two brothers, Nolan Mace and significant other Donna Stenger, of Springfield, Missouri, and Leon Mace and his wife Paula of Roby, Missouri; and a sister, Leona Bergren of Brookville, Wisconsin; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She lived a long, full life and will be missed by those who knew and loved her.
