David E. Leanhart (Lebanon)'s Obituary
David Earl Leanhart, son of Arthur and Loretta Saam Leanhart, was born September 26, 1942, in Louisville, Kentucky. He departed this life Friday, December 12, 2014, in Lake Regional Health Center, in Osage Beach, Missouri, at the age of seventy-two years, two months, and sixteen days.
On December 31, 1986, he was united in marriage to Jana Diane Gilliland, and they shared the last twenty-seven years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Arthur and William Leanhart.
David is survived by his wife, Jana, of the home; three sons, Cody Leanhart, of Lebanon, Missouri, Dennis Leanhart, and his wife, Silvia, of Augusta, Georgia, and David Leanhart, and his wife, Diane, of Jeffersonville, Kentucky; three daughters, Lisa Stevens, and her fiancé, Scott, of Jeffersonville, Indiana, Holly Wayne, and her husband, David, of Milltown, Indiana, and Denise Arnett, of Louisville, Kentucky; three stepsons, Brian Hampton, of Lebanon, Missouri, Chad Hampton, and his wife, Stephanie, of St. Charles, Missouri, and Brian Couch, of Louisville, Kentucky; ten grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Donald Leanhart, of Bloomington, Indiana; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
He was born and raised in Kentucky and then joined the United States Air Force as a young man. He served his country faithfully and also continued his education through the years. He had served in the Military Police and was also a mechanic for a time. He served in the Vietnam War and was stationed in various locations during his career in the Air Force. After retiring, he made his home in Warrensburg, Missouri, where he finished his Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice. In 1988, he and Jana moved to Lebanon, Missouri, and David served as the State of Missouri Probation Officer for Lebanon and Laclede County for several years.
David was an honorary member of the Kentucky Colonels. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing and bowling, and playing computer games. He was a fan of television and particularly enjoyed the Simpsons and Law and Order. He also liked collecting Stephen King books. He was very patriotic, and stood strong in his political convictions. He possessed a delightful sense of humor and liked to laugh. His family was very important to him and he enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.
David was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and know that he will be fondly remembered as a devoted family man, a dedicated soldier, a hard worker, a patriotic citizen, and a good friend.
