Dorothy A. Attebery (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Dorothy Aline Attebery, daughter of Ralph R. and Margaret Liebst Bailey, was born April 2, 1927, in Isabel, Kansas. She departed this life Friday, December 4, 2020, in Windsor Estates, in Camdenton, Missouri, at the age of ninety-three years, eight months, and two days.
On February 21, 1951, she was united in marriage to Raymond Laverne Attebery.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of sixty-four years, Raymond, on April 1, 2015; a great-granddaughter, Addie; two brothers, Leslie and Ralph Bailey; and a sister, Nadine Osgood.
Dorothy is survived by a daughter, Sharon Attebery, of Hutchinson, Kansas; two sons, Larry Ray Brown, and his wife, Betsy, of Ozark, Missouri, and Sanford Attebery, and his wife, Cathy, of Andalusia, Illinois; a son-in-law, Gordon Johnson, of Mooreland, Oklahoma; six grandchildren, Cindy, Cassey, Jenni, Corey, Andy, and Shelly; twelve great-grandchildren, Jacob, Alex, Joshua, Kaylee, Paisley, Maverick, Gavin, Callie, Erin, Morgan, Carter, and Benny; a great-great-granddaughter, Charlotte; a brother, Richard Bailey, and his wife, Ruth, of Stockton, Missouri; a sister-in-law, Shirley Bailey, of Kansas City, Missouri; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
She was raised in the Van Buren, Missouri area, and graduated from Van Buren High School. She then attended Pittsburg State University, where she earned her Bachelor of Education Degree. She taught in an elementary school in Westmoreland, California for several years. She then taught in Liberal, Kansas for many years, while her husband was an administrator of Schools. During those years, she was also a devoted homemaker to her husband and children. After retiring, she and Raymond moved to Lebanon, Missouri in 2001.
Dorothy made her profession of faith in Christ early in her life and was an active member of Hillcrest Baptist Church in Lebanon.
She was an excellent seamstress and taught sewing to immigrants at one time. She also enjoyed doing craft projects. She possessed a teacher’s heart and was very supportive of her husband’s work. Her family was very dear to her and she especially enjoyed having time with all of her grandchildren.
Dorothy was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and was a caring friend. We celebrate her life and know that her family and friends will cherish the wonderful memories she made for them during her lifetime.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, Dec. 9 at 2 p.m. at Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Lebanon. Friends may call at their convenience. Burial will be in Mount Rose Memorial Garden. A memorial has been established to Hillcrest Baptist Church.
