Dr. Carol E. Franklin (Hartville)'s Obituary
Carol Eileen (Koch) Franklin, 78, passed away surrounded by family and friends on July 29, 2015. She was born January 20, 1937, in Superior, Ohio. The daughter of Ernest Walter and Rose Mabel (Ridge) Koch. She was united in marriage to C. Duane Mowry on November 28, 1957, and to this union were born three children. Later she married Jefferson Brook Franklin on August 28, 1981.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Brook Franklin, one brother Walter Koch and two sisters, Grace Klender and Margaret Myers.
Carol graduated in 1962 from George Peabody College, Nashville, TN, with a BA degree in elementary education. She continued her college education and received a Master’s Degree in elementary education and a Specialist’s degree in elementary administration from Southwest Missouri State now MSU. Later she continued to receive college classes and finally received a Doctoral degree in 1989. She was listed in Who’s Who in American Education in 1989.
She was an active member of the First Freewill Baptist Church of Mountain Grove and was a member of the church choir. She was an elementary teacher and counselor for 45 years and retired in the year of 2002. Some of the schools where she taught were Houston Elementary, Ozark Elementary, Waterloo, Indiana, Elementary and 35 years at Cabool Elementary school. She held various offices in the Cabool Teacher’s Association. She was a member of the Missouri State Teacher’s Association, Missouri Counselor’s Association, Gamma Phi of Delta Kappa Gamma, and Missouri State Retired Teacher’s Association.
She is survived by three children, Melodie (Tom) Lewis of Newell, South Dakota; Melinda Mowry of Mountain Grove, Missouri; and Harmony G. (Lori) Mowry of Mountain Grove, Missouri; two step-daughters, Tammy (James) Strunk of Battlefield, Missouri; and Carrie (James) Fessler of Manes, Missouri; 13 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and a host of family and friends.
She loved finding antiques, crocheting, reading many books, working puzzles and collecting teapots.
