Frances Mahaffey (Seymour)'s Obituary
Frances (Lakin) Mahaffey, age 98 of Springfield, MO passed away Tuesday, October 23, 2018 at The Neighborhoods at Quail Creek.
She was born October 20, 1920 in Liberal, MO to Charles and Mamie Lakin. Frances graduated from Liberal High School in 1937. On October 17, 1940 she was united in marriage to Robert “Bob” Lee Mahaffey and the couple moved to Seymour, MO where Bob started his teaching career in vocational agriculture. After one year of teaching he was drafted into the US Army and they spent his enlisted time at Fort Wolters in Mineral Wells, TX. After the war they returned to Seymour and Bob continued teaching at Seymour High School. Their life in Seymour included many dear friends and many fond memories. Frances had worked as a secretary for the Seymour Schools and The Webster County Citizen for several years as well. She had been a member of the Seymour Methodist Church since 1940.
Frances is survived by one son Charles Lee Mahaffey and wife Diana of Springfield, MO; 3 grandsons and their families Brian Lee Mahaffey and wife Sandy and their two daughters Lauren and Samantha; Alan Lee Mahaffey and wife Karla and their three children Andrew, Olivia and Isaiah; Darren William Mahaffey and wife Sarah and their four children Margaret, Sadie, Kathryn and Max.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bob in April of 2002, a sister Jesse (Lakin) Tyler, a brother Fred Lakin and a sister Beulah (Lakin) Davenport.
In lieu of plants and flowers, memorial contributions may be left at the funeral home for the Seymour Methodist Church.
