James M Schmidt (Hartville)'s Obituary
James Michael Schmidt, son of Mike Schmidt and Penny Speaker, was born April 12, 1999. He departed this life early Sunday morning, June 16, 2019 in Odin, Missouri, at the age of twenty years, two months and four days.
James is preceded in death by paternal grandmother, Nancy “Nana” Schmidt; his maternal grandparents, James and Phyllis Shannon; an uncle, Rex Randolph; and a cousin, Travis Geddes.
He is survived by his parents, Mike Schmidt, of Grovespring, Missouri and Penny Speaker, of Lebanon, Missouri; his step-mother, Leaschia Irvin, of Grovespring Missouri; his step-sister, Shaila Johnson; his paternal grandfather, Bill Schmidt; his godfather, Wendell Shaver and his wife Lori; his aunts and uncles, Mike Shannon, Susie Schmidt, Dayna and Al Jewson, Rick and Cindy Geddes, Karen and Chuck Idleman, Billy and Marilyn Schmidt, and Joyce Randolph; a number of cousins, second cousins, other relatives, and many caring friends.
James was born in Springfield, Missouri and raised in the Grovespring area. He attended Grovespring and Hartville schools and graduated from Hartville High School in 2017. Baseball was James’ passion. He was an excellent third basemen and an even better pitcher. He played for the Hartville Eagles and was on the second-place team at the 2014 state tournament. He received the lowest ERA award both his sophomore and junior year. James was also 1st team all Summit conference his senior year. He played on the Hartville basketball team as well. He attended OTC after high school and was accepted to linemen school.
James accepted Christ as his savior and was baptized at an early age. He was a member of the Elk Creek Baptist Church and attended the Community Baptist Church in Lebanon.
James liked to hunt and fish with his friends and family. He was a member of the Hartville Crazies and FFA. He loved his family very much, including his new pup, Cooter. He was a loving, caring son and dear friend. James touched the lives of everyone he met and no one ever had a harsh word to say about him. We celebrate his wonderful life and we will always cherish the many happy memories he created.
Service-Friday, June 21st at 11:00 a.m. in the High School Gym
Visitation-Friday, June 21st at 10:00 a.m. until service time in the
High School Gym. 175 North School Avenue in Hartville, Mo.
Memorials may be made to the family, and left at the funeral home.
