I am so sorry to find out about Joe's passing. We were friends in High School where we performed together in both the senior and junior boys' variety show. Our act won first place both years. Joe's mom was the director.
We lost touch for many years after I moved to Ohio, but not long ago we got in touch. I don't remember who called who, but we hit it off like we had just seen each other. We were always going to make plans to get together. We finally had the plan to meet at DeGray Lake State Park in Arkansas. Joe was going to help me celebrate my 80th. I'm only 10 days younger. Sadly that wasn't to be.
Joe was and is my hero. I was home safe and sound while he was fighting to keep us all that way. His mom and dad shared his letters with me when I would stop by the house to worry with them. I wish we would have stayed closer.
I miss him. It is comforting to think he is playing golf with the angels.

The stories, oh the stories! Joe had many of them and always had many listeners. Early days it was truck driving cross country, firefighting and his family. We competed for a position with the Hinsdale Fire Department and we traveled to Jacksonville FL for a job ...neither one of us got it , we were 21 & 22 on the list, of course they only needed 20. You know " You silver tongued boy from the North, come down here to take our poor Southern boys jobs", didn't work out so well for us.

Joe was a special friend during his years in the Fire Service in Chicagoland. Joe taught me about Life and the importance of Helping others! Memories of Joe will live with me and hundreds of others in the Chicago area for the rest of our Lives. Rest in Peace my Friend!
