Larry Junior Appleberry (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Larry Junior Appleberry, son of Walter and Lillie Swanigan Appleberry, was born May 16, 1948, in Lebanon, Missouri. He departed this life Monday, February 11, 2019, in his home, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of seventy years, eight months, and twenty-six days.
On June 20, 1970, he was united in marriage to Gay Lee White, and to this union three daughters and four sons were born.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Phillip Appleberry; six brothers, and three sisters.
Larry is survived by his loving wife of forty-eight years, Gay Lee, of the home; three daughters, Eugenia Andersen, and her husband, Brad, of Yorktown, Virginia, Mary Frances Nelson, and her husband, Philip, of Arlington, Texas, and Chelsea Sawaqdeh, and her husband, A. J., of Warrenton, Virginia; three sons, Justin Appleberry, and his wife, Lilli, of Olathe, Kansas, Matthew Appleberry, and his wife, Shannon, of Springfield, Missouri, and Patrick Appleberry, and his wife, Christina, of Knoxville, Tennessee; twenty grandchildren; one great-grandchild; three sisters, Sharon Monnahan, Mary Jane Johnson, both of Lebanon, Missouri, and Edith Flannery, of Bolivar, Missouri; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
He was born and raised in the Lebanon area and attended Lebanon R-III Schools. He entered the military as a young man, and served his country faithfully in the United States Army from November 16, 1967, until his honorable discharge on December 22, 1969. He served in the Vietnam War and was awarded the Purple Heart with two Oak Leaf Clusters, the Bronze Star Medal, as well as several other awards and medals for his courageous actions. He then returned home and soon after he and Gay Lee were married. They made their home in Lebanon and lovingly began raising their family. Larry bore his disability with great honor and was a devoted family man. Through the years, he did handyman work and also was a gunsmith.
Larry was a longtime member of St. Francis DeSales Catholic Church in Lebanon.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 4107 in Lebanon, and the Disabled American Veterans Association.
He and Gay Lee enjoyed traveling to visit their children and grandchildren, and Larry was a fan of the St. Louis Cardinal Baseball team. His family was very important to him and he especially enjoyed having time with his grandchildren and great-grandchild.
Larry was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and know that his family and friends will treasure the wonderful memories he made for them during his lifetime.
