Lucille Gregory was a very intelligent, sweet lady whom I got to know only in her later years. She was a sister to one of my favorite people, Hester (Alexander) Allee, who was my aunt by marriage. Lucille and my mother, Ruby (Allee) Wright, corresponded for several years.
Lucille assisted me in the researching of my book, "Murder on Rouse Hill." She provided photos of the murdered man, Jasper "Jap" Francis's Missouri Foxtrotter horse named Sam. Sam was securely tied by Mr. Francis's killer to a blackjack oak in a hollow. When found, some 10 days later, he was nearly dead but was brought back to health. The pictures were taken just after the crime in November of 1915. It seems Lucille's father, Neal Alexander, was a good friend of Jap Francis and Lucille passed along her father's recollections of the aftermath of the crime.
Lucille and I exchanged Christmas Cards and letters for several years, including her beautiful card from December of 2012. which I hold in my hand. I will miss her.
Lucille was a wonderful person from a fine family. She rests in peace in God's eternal hands.
