Lucille E. Gregory (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Lucille E. Gregory, daughter of Neal E. and Carrie Brown Alexander, was born October 19, 1920, near Sleeper, Missouri. She departed this life Wednesday, May 8, 2013, in Christian Health Care South, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of ninety-two years, six months and eighteen days.
In 1944, she was united in marriage to Loran Gregory.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Loran; one son, Gordon Gregory; her sisters, Hazel McClure, Eunice Hillhouse, and Hester Allee; her brother, Claun Alexander; and one granddaughter, Stephanni Gregory Mask.
Lucille is survived by two daughters, Dr. Alexandra Fern Gregory, of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, and Cherie Clift, and her husband, Tommy, of Conway, Missouri; one son, Darrell Gregory, and his wife, Janis, of Sleeper, Missouri; one brother, Robert Alexander, of Spearfish, South Dakota; one sister, Eva Maye Sherrer, of Sleeper, Missouri; eight grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and a number of nieces and nephews.
She loved her heritage with all her heart and was a major supporter of the community in which she lived. She also loved researching the history of the area of Laclede County where she made her home. Lucille professed her faith early in life and was a longtime active member of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. Through the years she supported her husband’s business by serving as his bookkeeper. She loved and supported her family and always encouraged them to live for Christ and seek his will for their lives. She made a comfortable home for her family and was proud of all her children and their accomplishments.
As a supporter of her community, she helped organize the Sleeper Fire Department and served as Vice President of the Board of Directors and had served as treasurer for many years. She loved country and gospel music and enjoyed hearing her husband sing with his country group. She was patriotic and loved her country and had served as a committee woman for the Auglaize Township of Laclede County for many years. She also loved working at the elections each year as long as her health permitted. She loved visiting on the telephone with all her family and friends
Her faith was central in her life and she lived it as a daily testimony in her words and deeds.
Lucille will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister. Her impact will be long felt in the Sleeper community as well as with her family and many friends.
