BOB
You came into my life 34 years ago,
A young, gruff, rugged man
Whom I was scared to death of.
You said few words
And no smile did I see,
But it was your special day,
So “Happy 40th Birthday” today.
What you said to me that day
I will treasure the rest of my life,
“Girl, it’s just another day”
“Besides, what makes this day so happy?”
I was so young
And didn’t know what to say,
So I just smiled and walked away.
But 10 years later, when 50 you would be
Those same sweet words you whispered to me
“Girl, it’s just another day,
“What makes this day so happy?”
That year I came prepared
So I knew what to say,
With a smile on my face
These words I did say,
“It’s happy because I am in your life.”
No word did you say
But a smile I did see
As you turned and walked away.
You had a soft, gentle soul
With a warm, tender heart.
That so few people could see
But just so you know, Bob,
You couldn’t keep that from me.
Saturday morning, June 7, 2014,
Wasn’t just another day,
We lost a husband, father, grandfather, and friend
Whom we loved so very much
So God today a gruff, rugged man
With a soft, gentle soul
Will walk through Heaven’s door.
Please let him know
We will miss him so much
And tell him for me,
That happy we’ll be
When together again we will be.
