Robert P. Lowery (Mansfield)'s Obituary
Robert Philip Lowery, son of Herman Jay and Margaret Eleanor Lusk Lowery, was born September 16, 1933, in New Castle, Pennsylvania, and departed this life on July 7, 2011, in Rocky Ridge Manor near Mansfield at the age of seventy-seven years, nine months and twenty-one days.
At the age of twelve Bob moved with his parents and sister to Los Angeles, California, where he graduated from high school and UCLA with a teaching degree in science. He was married and had a daughter, Diana, who died many years ago at age 14. Soon after her death his marriage ended.
During the Korean War, Bob entered the United States Army and was stationed at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, where he worked as a lab technician for almost two years. After being honorably discharged, he taught science classes in middle and high school for thirty years.
On February 14, 1981, Bob was united in marriage to Claudia Kellogg. He and Claudia moved to a farm near Mansfield and his parents relocated in the City of Mansfield at the same time. After the death of his parents, he and Claudia moved into their home in Mansfield where they lived until their health forced them to live the rest of their lives in Rocky Ridge Manor.
After moving to this area, Bob became an active member of the Clarence King Post #128 of the American Legion where he served many years as Sgt at Arms, being very involved in graveside military honors for those Veterans who had passed on. He was also a member of the Mansfield Lodge #543 and attended when his health permitted. For many years Bob volunteered as the parade organizer for the Wilder Day Parade.
Bob enjoyed animals of all kinds. During his science teaching years he often had cages with large spiders, snakes and other critters in his house.
His great love was fishing and while living in California he went deep sea fishing with his dad. While living in Missouri he went every time he got the chance, even after he moved into Rocky Ridge Manor.
Bob was preceded death by his parents, a daughter, and his wife Claudia, who died on December 31, 2009.
He is survived by his sister, Janet Brantley and her husband Robert of Pamona, Missouri; two nieces; two nephews; three great-nieces and four great-nephews and many friends.
Bob was a loving brother and uncle and a caring neighbor and friend. We will cherish our memories of him.
