Ruby May Wright (Seymour)'s Obituary
Ruby May (Jacobs) Wright, one of six children born to Claud Davis and Lula Belle (Johnston) Jacobs, peacefully departed this life Saturday, March 8, 2014, at her residence in Seymour, Missouri, with family at her side. She was eighty-six years, six months and one day young.
Ruby was born September 7, 1927, in El Campo, Texas, where she and her family would live for many years to come. She attended El Campo High School and met her future husband, J.D. Wright, of Seymour, while he was stationed at Camp Hulen near Palacios, Texas, during World War II. She was heard saying that it took just one date and they knew they would be together.
When the war ended, he went back to Texas and they were married on March 21, 1946; to this union six children were born.
J.D. worked in the oil industry, which moved the family from Texas to California and several oil fields in between. The Wrights made their way back to Seymour in May of 1967, where they would settle in and continue to build a life for their family. Ruby was proud to say all of her children were Seymour High School graduates.
Ruby would obtain her General Education Degree, achieving the highest exam score in the state. She later attended Seymour Beauty Academy and became an instructor, which she truly enjoyed and did for many years in various Springfield beauty colleges and Seymour College of Beauty. She took great pride in that several of her family members, both male and female, had served or were serving their country in the U.S. Military.
In her spare time, Ruby enjoyed gardening and reading, and a word search or crossword puzzle was always nearby. She loved her family and adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, spending as much time with them as she could.
In addition to her parents, Ruby was preceded in death by her husband, J.D. Wright, who passed away March 17, 1987; an infant son; young brother, Donald Jacobs; brother, Marvin Hensley Jacobs; and sister, Gladys Irene Melcher.
Ruby leaves behind five children, Lynda D. Arreola and husband Pedro, of Pampa, Texas; Larry A. Wright and wife Carol, of Warrensburg, Missouri; Rebecca J. Russell and husband Quentin, of Norwood, Missouri; Juanita B. Glenn and husband Dennis, of Seymour, Missouri; and Jay “Donnie” Wright and wife Marion, of Alton, Illinois; sixteen grandchildren, forty-two great-grandchildren and eleven great-great-grandchildren with one more on the way; brother, Bruce E. Jacobs and wife Nancy, of Pflugerville, Texas; sister, Eva L. Williams of El Campo, Texas; and aunt, Hallie Johnston of Wharton, Texas; and many more nieces, nephews and extended family and dear friends.
Ruby May Wright was a beloved wife, a devoted mother, adoring grandmother and great-grandmother and a caring sister. She will be remembered for her beautiful smile, twinkling eyes and loving spirit. She has left us a legacy of family and life accomplishments. We will treasure every memory she made for us and cherish every moment spent with her. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
