Velma Nelson (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Velma Faye Nelson, daughter of Lo Ray and Bertha Johnson Fincher, was born May 24, 1928, near Grovespring, Missouri. She departed this life Saturday, August 1, 2020, in Lebanon South Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of ninety-two years, two months, and eight days.
On July 8, 1947, she was united in marriage to Charles Alfred “Tom” Nelson, and to this union one daughter and two sons were born.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Tom; a daughter, Carolyn Jeffries; an infant son; and a brother, Pat Fincher.
Velma is survived by a son, Steve Nelson, of Grovespring, Missouri; four grandchildren, Brad Nelson and wife Mandie, Andrea Lane and husband Nathan, Michael Nelson and wife Angela, and Lucinda Garner and husband Jeremy; eleven great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Lenny Fincher, of Taylorville, North Carolina; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
She was born and raised in the Grovespring community and then lived her entire life there. After she and Tom were married they lovingly raised their children. Velma was a devoted homemaker to her husband and family and also worked as a seamstress for the H. D. Lee Company for many years.
Velma made her profession of faith in Christ early in her life and was a member of Gardner Freewill Baptist Church.
In her spare time she enjoyed working in her garden and was an excellent cook. Her family was very dear to her and she especially liked spending time with her children and grandchildren, and especially loved working every summer at Vacation Bible School.
Velma was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, aunt and was a caring friend. We celebrate her life and know that her family and friends will cherish the wonderful memories she created for them during her lifetime.
Memorials can be made in Velma's honor to the Coldwater Cemetery through Holman Howe Funeral Home.
