Wayne Hammerbacher (Bolivar)'s Obituary
Howard Wayne Hammerbacher, 88, of Fair Play, passed away Thursday, February 11, 2016 at the Colonial Springs Healthcare in Buffalo.
Wayne was born August 4, 1927 to Walter and Lizzie (Moore) Hammerbacher. He was born and raised on the Polk County family farm southwest of Louisburg, MO.
Wayne enjoyed his childhood along with his five siblings. He was educated at Carter School House, then moving on to attend and graduate from Louisburg High School. Wayne worked the farm and the Kansas wheat harvest as a youth, then a dairy in Hollywood, CA, and later with the railroad in California and Missouri. On January 6th 1951 Wayne took Mary Marie Brown as his bride in Harrison, AR, They eventually made way to Kansas City and later to Raytown, MO. After 35 years of service to the large dye cut department of Hallmarks Cards, Wayne retired along side his brother Milfred in 1988, and he and Mary moved back to Polk County and to Fair Play, MO.
Wayne was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Elizabeth "Beth" Stehwien of Holden, MO; his parents, Walter and Lizzie; two brothers, Paul and Herman; two sisters, Maxine Hamblin, and Florene Hamlet. He is survived by his wife, Mary; two daughters, Sharon Hall and Teresa Moberly and her husband Roger; one son, Mike; grandchildren, Lauren Phelps and husband Drew, Sarah Moberly, Daniel Moberly, Molly Moberly, Michael Stehwien, Mary Kate Stehwien; great grandchildren, Alyssa Phelps, Ethan Phelps, Braylin Moberly, and Jace Ramsey. He also leaves son in law, Scott Stehwien; a brother, Milfred Hammerbacher and wife Willo; brother in law, Tuff Hamlet; sister in law, Georgia Hammerbacher; brother in law, Marvin Brown, along with many loving nieces and nephews.
A dedicated ordained deacon and song leader in the church, Wayne was truly a man after God's own heart. As well as his deep love of God and Family, his witty humor, and kindness toward his fellow man, Wayne will always be remembered for his affinity for sweets and his vast talents in wood working and carving.
