Winifred "Winnie" Bradshaw (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Winifred “Winnie” Mary Bradshaw, daughter of Jasper and Rachael Looney McGuire, was born November 11, 1911, near Decaturville, Missouri. She departed this life Saturday, May 11, 2013, in Christian Health and Rehabilitation Center North, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of one hundred one years, and six months.
On October 15, 1934, she was united in marriage to L. D. Bradshaw, and to this union one son was born.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, L.D., on June 27, 2004; her son, Lee Dan Bradshaw; a brother, Curtis McGuire; and seven sisters, Flossie Cross, Velma Mizer, Vada Williams, Elva DeCoursey, Effie Darrow, Wilma Berry, and Sylvia Miller.
Winnie is survived by a daughter-in-law, Joan Bradshaw, of Lebanon, Missouri; two granddaughters, Kimberly Hargis, of Aurora, Illinois, and Sandra Meckem, of Bremerton, Washington; a great-grandson, Devin Meckem, of Lebanon, Missouri; four great-grandchildren, Brittany Meckem, of Rolla, Missouri, Cadince Meckem, Cailyn Meckem, and Connor Meckem, all of Lebanon, Missouri; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
She was raised on a farm near Decaturville in a household with eight brothers and sisters. She learned to do chores on the farm and to cook at an early age, learning to cook on a wood cook stove. After she and L. D. were married, they made their home on a farm near the Reagan School for a few years before moving to California. During the seventeen years they lived in Whittier, California, Winnie worked at a citrus packing company and at a doughnut shop and also was a devoted homemaker to her husband and son. In 1954, the family moved back to Laclede County and lived on a farm near Eldridge. Later, they purchased a farm near the community of Dove, and Winnie helped L.D. with the chores. In 1996, Winnie and L.D. retired and moved into Lebanon.
Winnie had made her profession of faith and was baptized at the Zion Baptist Church. She later attended the Dove Church for many years.
She also belonged to the Prosperine Club at one time. In her spare time she enjoyed fishing, and she and Dan made many trips to their favorite fishing spot. Above all else, Winnie loved to cook and enjoyed feeding company, the neighbors, or anyone that would happen by the Bradshaw home. Through the years, she was a wonderful caregiver to L. D.
Winnie was a loving mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, and aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her long life and know that her family and friends will treasure the wonderful memories she created for them during her lifetime.
Memorial donations to Hufft Cemetery may be made through the funeral home.
